GUNTUR:

Want to make sure that the lights and fans are switched off even after you leave your house? Just send an SMS across from your mobile and get the job done. The SMS is received by the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) modem installed in the house, which in turn is connected to all the electrical devices at home. While modern mobile technologies are sweeping the global markets, three unemployed graduates have devised simple automated solutions using embedded GSM technology that makes life easier at home and offices. They may not boast of computer degrees on their visiting cards, but they still managed to put the bits and pieces of their knowledge and have devised innovative solutions.

The team consisting of G. Venkat, a hardware engineer, Ch. Nageswara Rao (software developer) and M. Subhash (software developer) began working on GSM-based solutions an year ago and have now developed Interactive Voice Responsive System (IVRS) applications for use in schools and colleges, vehicular tracking systems, SMS broadcasting, GSM security systems, applications in industrial safety and banking sector.

“All our applications are GSM enabled and can be controlled by mobile phones. We managed to successfully work on embedded technologies in using SMSes. The applications are cost effective and do not need a computer,” the team leader Venkat told The Hindu here on Friday.

First Success

The team tasted its first success after they invented a bike mobile charger, in which the charger is connected to one end of the battery. They released the product in the market for Rs.95. “It was then that we decided to work on applications which would have multiple users,” Venkat says. The trio was supported by businessmen J. Murali Krishna and Harnath who helped them procure computers, laptops and modems. “Devising the I.V.R.S system was the most difficult as we encountered several problems in recognising the voice software. They devised I.V.R.S in three formats, biometric system, the radio frequency ID technology and the manual type. “We wanted our solutions to be used by small schools in villages too. We will bring in more innovative tools in future,” they rounded off. They have aptly named their office Welfare Solutions and it is located on 6/7 Brodipet. (For details contact.
